In case you’re wondering why no comment on some of the latest pet food scandals

Someone stopped by my blog and left comments about a particular brand (it’s formulation and such) that could have gotten me sued if I had let them remain.  He was an “insider” and was “wanting to get the word out” by posting his remarks on as many blogs as he could.  Not a great technique, if you ask me, but he was from another country and was clumsy, at best.  Whether or not he was truthful is for someone else to decide.  It was prudent not to let his accusations remain so I did something I rarely do, I deleted them.

Another popular website is naming names, and they are welcome to, but some of us are waiting for the FDA to actually issue a recall or an advisory.  Many reputable pet forums, including ITCHMO (one of my favorites), are deleting those pet food company names for the same reason I deleted that blog comment.  It’s not right, we are not what we used to call “yellow journalists”, we’re not in the tabloid or gossip business, we are in the “reputable facts” business.

I know many of you wish that we would be “courageous” but it takes no courage at all to spread defamatory rumors.  What takes more courage is to stand up and say, we will handle this the proper way.

So if you were wondering, that’s why you haven’t seen me writing on some of this week’s hot pet food topics.

  1. Good on you. I’ve seen what you are talking about and it sounds like bunk to me, but even if it’s true, it is irresponsible to put it out without investigating first.
